Afties all - late on parade today. @Pat EĀ is probably getting ready for bed... I think I have your cold too @punkdoc.Ā Glad your oven is working @Dovefromabove. I don't have a back up here if mine goes, so it would have to be casseroles on the hob or stir fries etc.Ā Hope you're having a nice day @WonkyWomble I think a total lack of common sense is being displayed everywhere @Obelixx. Humans are unbelievably stoopid at times.Ā Ā At least the lousy day meant there were fewer lycra clad bams out this morning. Flood warnings here. I had to go out and try and get one of the big sweet pea pots back on it's feet. There was a bullfinch sitting in the cage which has a roof. I swear he was laughing at me.... I've had to tie that pot down onto the bench.Ā The planting under the back window is looking rather battered. Oh well... That reminds me- there was a nice little tribute to Mr Green on Johnnie's show on Sunday. Some nice stories.Ā
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
Could be worse @Hostafan1 We had to replace a freezer because its plasti door seal had failed.Ā No spare prts available so a whole load of metal, plastic, gases and insulation to recycle plus hundreds of euros for a new freezer.Ā Ā Mad.
@Fairygirl the outbreak in question is 260 kms north of us in a part we never visit but, since France reorganised into 13 larger regions, we get lumped in with it despite having very low rates of infection here from the start.Ā Ā Infuriating.Ā Ā What are you doing with high winds and flood warnings???
Well done @Dovefromabove .Ā Ā Chin up @punkdoc .Ā Soon be over.Ā Ā Colds last a week if you treat them and 7 days if you don't.Ā Hope you can sleep thru the worst of it.
I've been researching birdsong as there's a very tuneful bird here at the mo.Ā Not robin, dunnock, redstart, chaffinch.Ā Not visible either.Ā Any suggestions?Ā
Have also been reading up on fitting skirting boards.Ā Better go and do some then.
The coal tits are very vocal for such tiny wee birds @Obelixx. Do you get them? Quite a high pitched tone, and very loud. I love them.Ā
Heavy rain and gale force winds. Standard fare for a Scottish summer. At least the twats blocking all the roads [even those with double yellow lines ] will presumably be at home today, so local people can heave a sigh of relief. 70 of 'em fined t'other day at Loch Lomond. The Ben Lomond/Balloch end. Complete morons. Should just tow them. We need the financial penalties in the UK that they're handing out in @Pat E's neck of the woods.Ā

Several cups of coffee and the application of a bit of logic (and scrutiny of the handbook) revealed that a combination of an inadvertent triggering of the auto set programme by āsomeone unknownā coupled with the misreading of which trip switch was down (the blank) had lead us to think there was a problem ... this morning, when Miss Marple realised that because the oven clock was flashing Ā there must be a current in there somewhere ... šĀ The button was pressed and voilĆ ... š¤£Ā In our defence, we never ever use the auto settings.Ā
Gardening in Central NorfolkĀ on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
I'm out of ideas then @Obelixx. I'm not very good at telling the differences Ā Ā There's been a problem with a 'beauty spot' [The Devil's Pulpit]Ā as they like to call them, near a little hill I did last year.Ā Ā I wondered why, on the way home, all the cars were parked badly on each side of the road, which is a typically narrow one. It was the Easter weekend, so I assumed it was something on locally for kids, like an Easter egg hunt. It was only when it was in the news recently that I looked up the map to see where it was, and it's there. The council had just put double yellow lines down the road becauseof the trouble it was causing, and there was a photo in the news of a line of cars parked all along them - Friday probably. How is that any different from a double yellow anywhere else? We're too soft with these selfish idiots when it comes to penalties. Nothing would focus their mind more than a hefty penalty to their bank account.Ā Ā
