Help - what plants have similar foliage to Daylilies?

DevonianDevonian Posts: 176
I love the foliage effect of daylilies but was wondering if there are other plants with similar foliage (IE long, arching straplike leaves in a 2-3ft mound) that can cope with partial shade? I have a spot in my garden which faces ESE but with fence behind and trees behind that, so it gets sun all morning til about 1pm.

Thanks!

Hemerocallis fulva (the old orange variety) will be OK in partial shade and there's one called "Destined to See" which would be OK and another called "Golden Chimes" or you could have a look a phormiums but choose them for colourful or stripey foliage rather than flowers.

Just leaves, not worried about flowers? Lots of grass and sedge that fits the bill, I'm looking at some right next to a daylilly right now, the foliage is indistinguishable...

Nerine bowdenii, although not too much shade for them.  Libertia Grandiflora does well in some shade.

Thanks all, really useful. I'm not so worried about flowers @Obelixx as it's going into a bed that I'm planning with mainly magenta and whites with some dark purple, so I'm not so keen on introducing the hot colours of daylilies too (at least not until I've seen how the bed fills out!).

Libertia might well be the one @KeenOnGreen , the white flowers would fit in just fine!

Grasses is a good idea too @strelitzia32, any idea what grass you have next to the daylily? I was wondering about Hakonechloa Macra actually...

Hesperantha Coccinea pink version and Liriope Muscari (comes in purples and white flowers) could also do well.

"Destined to See" is perfect for that colour scheme!

Evergreen Iris foetidissima has very dull purplish flowers (with a bit of murky yellow) and has strap like leaves. It has orangey-red berries in autumn but IMHO that would work well against dark purples etc - if there are any flowers left by the time the berries come! Iris sibirica could cope with half day shade as well I reckon.

Thanks all! Some great ideas there, especially interested in the Destined to See!

Also Crocosmia will do fine in shade.
