@steephill I thought it was foxes last year but then quickly realised that it was squirrels when I found the footprints in the soil and little holes dug and also my dog wont allow foxes in our garden he'd tear them a new arsehole excuse the expletives! but squirrels he cant get and they run along the fence to get the neighbours bloody food that has been left out for them and then down the fence to my beds and also in my pots!! Just generally my whole garden is there playground!!

Oh also I dont use blood fish and bone fertiliser  purely because I have read that foxes can smell it, I just use multipurpose compost and topsoil! 😊

@Hostafan1 I am seriously debating on traps! Is it legal??
It's totally legal to catch them in traps, but they have to be killed "humanely" . An air gun to the head does the trip I believe.
    Devon.

Yes it is legal in the UK as grey squirrels are classed as vermin.  Google 'kania 2000' for one that works.  You'll need the optional right-angle entrance tunnel to prevent other creatures from entering.  This one deals an instant kill, so no shooting required.
A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.

Blimey @BobTheGardener you sound like you know exactly what your doing I'm taking it you have had problems with squirrels too!? I just googled it and it's not too expensive either! Can you reuse it if needs be? Christ on a bike I lived in the countryside for nearly half my life and never encountered squirrels as a problem, I come to london and squirrels are bloody everywhere! Problems left right and centre! 🤦‍♀️
  • A pair of squirrels started nesting in our roof a few years ago. After paying pest controllers to remove them ( they failed) I bought some snap traps, mounted them in boxes on the walls where they came and went, and crucially, baited the pebble dashed wall with peanut butter to lead them into the trap. Both were killed within a couple of days. I have no regrets, since I have since seen the damage they were causing to my roof timbers. Your neighbours may come to regret encouraging the vermin.

I know someone who had them chew through cables in the loft which set the roof on fire

Oh my god that's horrendous we've already got pigeons nesting on my roof because people dont seem to u understand "dont leave bread for the pidgeons" @Hostafan1. @Johnny Crosby were the traps like rat traps? That could work!! 🤔
