I think you have all the weevils wild edges. I have only seen 4 or 5 this year. But the nights ARE wonderful, this year, and I can't see my plants gasping for water in the dark!

No weevils at all last night!

My wife said she saw a weevil in a pot by the front door. I never check the front of the house but found over 20 out there tonight :|  but it's a lovely clear night with bright stars and an almost constant flashing of lightning somewhere on the other side of the mountain. We can't hear it but the light show is amazing. We even saw a really bright shooting star that left a trail in the sky above us. Last night an owl flew low and slow over my head then sat on the neighbour's roof and screeched at a distant rival for a while.
20?!  Wow!  I found two a few nights back (disposed of) but a third managed to fall into the soil and I lost her!  Not been able to find any since.

That evening sounds amazing (apart from the weevils). I've only ever seen two owls at night but I can hear them hooting away in the park at the end of my road.

We haven't had any thunder or lightning so far.  A bit of drizzle and dense cloud but nothing exciting or dramatic to tingle the senses.

The nights have been extra special this year.  The first month/6 weeks of lockdown was my highlight.  So quiet and so peaceful and we had a beautiful spring.

Hurrah!  I do feel a sense of relief on nights like that BUT I then start to think 'maybe they are just getting better at hiding!'

Been out ten minutes so far tonight and found five! All sitting on the tops of leaves. No searching required tonight. It's like they were waiting for me!

Geum, heuchera, tiarella, nepeta, epimedium. The usual victims apart from nepeta. First time I've found one on there!

I only found ten tonight. For the last few nights I've found at least fifteen to twenty on each search. :(
I've noticed a real lack of millipedes around this year. Last year there were loads but now I often don't even see one. These odd things you notice on a night hunt.
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.

@wild edges I was just about to post again. Just come in. Found seven in total tonight; most I've found in one night this summer.

I've read that late August is when they are more prolific with egg laying so the increase in numbers makes sense.

I wonder if @K67 has noticed an increase?

I sat down after posting my last message and found one behind me on the wall of the house! Unlucky midnight stroll for that little weevil!

With the "late August" advice in mind I think I'll be out every night for the next couple of weeks.

    I WILL beat them!

@jamessayersbrown read your post last night after my hunt. Only found 3 but must admit I didn't do a thorough search. I had stopped but saw one on a wall during the day and couldn't decide wether it had dropped off just before my slipper hit it or after!
Just thinking of relaxing but if they do more egg laying now maybe it's back to checking the clematis which involves the umbrella and broom to hit the plant without snapping the stems, an art I have perfected over the last few weeks.
@wild edges I feel for you. but at least they can't fly!,

@K67 It would be interesting to see if you find more over the next couple of weeks.

I hate it when they fall and you aren't sure if you got them beforehand.

If they could fly it would be game over for me.  I think I'd have one of those concrete gardens with fairy lights and gravel and one big vase.  *shudders*

Good luck with the brolly and broom!
