Cheapest place to buy topsoil

    Be wary of buying topsoil in bulk from garden centres too. Last autumn I was filling in an old pond and bought what I considered to be a reasonably priced ton of topsoil. Turned out to be heavy clay, which I have had to mix with loads of compost etc to enable new grass to grow well

    Thanks Johnny,it seems those bulk bags can contain some surprises,that would be frustrating
  • We have just filled in our pond with enriched loam from Travis Perkins - we're in Southampton, don't know if they're southern based. Having personally shoveled and raked I found nothing untoward in it.

    Hi thanks,I got 5 bags from Homebase today,I hope it's enough.I rang an Uber and he met me at the shop and collected it
