They do, but this isn't! It's not often that Dove is beaten!

I would say those are Jerusalem artichokes, too.

Looks a lot like the Jerusalem artichokes we have growing at the allotment.

So perhaps I’ve not been beaten this time after all? 🤣

it might be an Helianthus, lemon queen is a fast grower, and you get loads of leaves for ages but would think it have some buds showing by now if it gets plenty of sun.

I know they’re the same family as Jerusalem artichokes but do they grow the tubers?  I can’t remember ever digging one up ...

JA's rarely flower in the UK - only happened twice in the last 30 years or so for mine, so that fits too.

Thank you to all who gave their help.

The consensus seems to be Jerusalem artichokes  - but then Garden Geek came up with a surprise .

Helianthus Lemon queen sounds so familiar and I may well have bought one having seen it on a TV programme. Of course, I won't remember where I put it  -but at the back makes sense.

This plant has had a stay of execution - research tells me Helianthus can grow 2.5m and needs a long hot summer to flower well. I will wait to see if it flowers

Oh! I feel quite pleased with myself, now! I hope it is the helianthus!
