Mystery plant - I doubt this is the Nicotiana I planted

AlxNicAlxNic Posts: 259
I refer to the tall green plant by the fence. I planted Nicotiana Lime Green seeds in this place and was quite happy initially to see leaves growing. However, it's growing and growing but no flowers appear.

I remember something like this (in the same place last year), I never knew what it was but when it topped the six foot fence I gave up. I have dug one up in case it helps to name it.

Plant ID would be much appreciated. Thank you

No, that's a perennial. Does it get yellow, daisy-like flowers? I have forgotten the name but someone will know. You have to start nicotiana in seed trays in warmth, I don't think you can just sow them straight into the ground.

    Thanks for your reply, Posy
I did start the nicotiana in a green house and they were planted in degradable pots. The tall green plants never seem to get to flower - if they are the same as last year (and the bulbs things look the same) , they got to almost 7 foot.

Hoping someone can tell me what they are

Thanks, Dove. If they are Jerusalem artichokes I might wonder how they got there. Not planted by me in the last 10 years - I could wash one off and post a picture

Do you know what's growing on the other side of the fence?

Have you eaten any? A few peelings in a bowl of water tipped out into the garden were enough to produce a large clump in my garden 😂

I have eaten Jerusalem artichokes  once - but a very, very  long time ago and nothing went into the garden.
