Climber for Cedar screen
Hi all,
I have just finished (mostly!) building a cedar screen that separates the sunken seating area of my garden with the main upper section.
I am looking for a climber to grow on it, but nothing too heavy, I don't want it to be a wind sail! I would also like to preserve the look of the cedar, so I'm looking for something quite "fine" for want of a better word, I don't want a green wall! I also plan to eventually plant a couple of shaped/topiary trees in front of it, possibly beech. The screen gets afternoon sun being SW facing with our house casting shade from around 6-7pm onwards (currently).
I have no real colour scheme at the moment (this is my first 6 months in the garden) but would like the over whelming feel to be cool and green with dashes of colour. I have a bed planted with perennials and grasses:
Sedum Matrona
Molinia Caerulea Moorhexe
Deschampsia cesptisoa Goldtau
Perovskia Blue Spire
Echinacea White Swan
Verbena Bor.
I was thinking either a Clematis or a Jasmine. I think an evergreen would be better and something I could plant now would be great but if I have to wait then so be it.
Thanks all!

I’ve no idea what I’m doing.

There are loads of clematis which would suit - just browse the main outlets : Taylor's Clematis, Thorncroft and Hawthornes.
I personally love my Lemon Dream [a macropetala] for spring.
You could add another brighter one for later in the year. Lots of them aren't rampant, so you could have one at each end, and still see the screen.
I also have alpina Constance, which is very well behaved, and has dark pink nodding flowers in spring. You get a few flowers in late summer, although we don't get so many here at that time of year.
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
@Fairygirl looks like a Clematis is the way to go. I do like that Alpina Constance, just the sort of thing I imagined. And yes, I want to be able to see the screen as well.
Just look at the sites, and you can put in colour and time of flowering, and they'll give you an idea of eventual size and pruning group etc.
There are countless varieties which will suit you
