This has probably been discussed elsewhere, but while we're on the subject, has anyone had luck with electronic cat deterrents? I'm tempted by this one https://www.birdfood.co.uk/catwatch-accessories

I have some as back ups. I don't think they are all that effective. Some cats are deaf!
We had major problems, effectively my gardening life was totally destroyed by 5 cats when new neighbours moved in.
I tried literally everything on the internet and every device imaginable.
The only thing that really works is the contech scarecrow motion activated water squirters.
We are now thankfully cat free in our back garden.
Considerable cost though as our garden is quite 3 dimensional and it takes several to cover every area.

Honestly, they do work and are set to a frequency
only for cats. They do take time to work - it's not all of a sudden. So,
yes you might see a cat walk right in front of it. It doesn't hurt the
cat, it's only uncomfortable and it takes a short while for cats to be
put off by it and realise why.
For me,
winter in particular, is a terrble time when my garden turns into one
big cat toilet. The ground is barer and people are out in it less, so
there is less disturbance. About eight cats use my garden and the
latrine areas can be developed over months if not nixed. I put sonics
out last year and this last winter there were no latrine areas; very
little poo. Usually each spring I have the foul task of donning gloves
and shovelling heaps of cats shit into bags before I can work the
ground. But - no longer. The sonics work.
I
would say that you need more than one. They work on a wedge shaped
sonic area, so placing them against a fence is best, where cats can't
get behind, and triangulating the deives will help all areas to be
covered. Every three months or so I love the devices around a bit, so
that leafage doesn't get in the way etc.
The
RSPB offer a six month money back guarentee (no quibble. Check that
out). So I would definately say to try it for a few months and send it
back if no joy. Use the mains connected device if you can (rather than
batteries). People who say it doesn't work are often not using it right.
IMO cats should stay home. Its so sad to see cats run over on roads, sat outside meowing at windows, and hurt in fights. The best thing I have seen is a catio!
This is one of the many, many reasons why my two aren't allowed out at all. I love them. I'm not expecting the whole neighbourhood to do so. As soon as we can we're getting them a catio! The whole street was woken up at the crack of dawn the other day by two cats mating loudly on the pavement. Why can't people neuter their pets?! @Fire I agree with you. If dogs were doing this no one would put up with it. @acmeproductionco I hope your wee mouse is ok!
Oh God. The range of excuses is mind boggling, @pyra88
There was a comment on this forum a few years a go where one member was angrily exhorting us to appreciate how cats help to manure the ground - we should be thanking them for adding nutrients to the soil.

They...they do know carnivore poo makes terrible manure, right? And that cats rarely bury it??
I love them, don't get me wrong. But they shouldn't be allowed outside. Not with the deviation they bring to local wildlife and how many are killed on roads.
Interestingly. I follow some cat rescue people on instagram and YouTube. None of them let their own cats outside.
One pregnant female Wood Mouse (not being picky but that's technically what yours is) got into our kitchen. After a while we noticed and bought two very cheap humane click traps from B&Q. We caught 12 in total very easily and relocated them in a nearby forest. Sadly my wife ran one over which we thought had run into the grass on release. Still the point is we tried and for very little effort and almost no cost 11 mousy lives were saved. Luv Dave

And of course the risk of toxoplasmosis...
the levels of denial, and stupidity of some cat owner is indeed breathtaking.
