@Wild edges, seeing your name come up has reminded me that I need your advice on vine weevils. I have a patch of hellebores about 1m sq on a kind of rockery which are being eaten. Given that I don't want to do any night time patrols with a porch (too many steps/rocks etc. is there anything else I could do please? I've got some Vine Weevil killer but I think that's only for pots? I also had potted hellebores nearby awaiting homes so have moved them further away (2-3 metres) - should I apply the VWK to these asap?

I didn't know they ate hellebore, I'll have to add that to the list of plants to check now  :| Is it just the adults munching the leaves? The VWK is systematic though isn't it so should cover the whole plant, leaves and roots. I'm still finding adults all over the place, not in huge numbers and usually freshly pupated but I've no idea where they are coming from.

If I see some I'll try that one.
A bit strange that the westlands effort was the only compost available in two places. 😒
Speaks for itself then, I’ve never tried it, never would. I’ve heard from other people it’s not good.

    Silvagrow is great stuff.

Another vote for Silvagrow from me. Also the Dalefoot wool & bracken based compost is really good but expensive especially as the bags are small.

@wild edges , I'm presuming it's the adults eating the leaves round the edges but as I've never seen them I don't know. The hellebores have been there for a number of years without a problem. My Lily of the Valley in a small pot up on the gas meter nearby has also been got at so I've moved that higher.

Tomorrow's forecast has gone from sunny all day to wet all day, since I last looked at it.   :/

I bought a number of plants about 10 days ago, and still haven't managed to get them planted.  Several days of very high winds and now rain which makes the borders almost impossible to dig.  Frustrating!
