This year I'm telling the hogs to get on with it, as we have more slugs than usual, but then I am only seeing one hog too, which is less than usual. Just a question. We have a green corridor opposite our house along which the hogs seem to travel to my garden. Recently (2/3weeks) a non resident has started bringing his boarder collie to toilet one to two times a day ( yes he appears to pick up the mess) but would the scent put hogs off using this area?
I've often read that it's debatable how many slugs hogs actually eat. I suppose it also depends on the surroundings/habitat etc.
I've got plenty of footage from the open feeding bowl where the hogs have feasted on the food and the only thing left on the bowl when they depart is the abundance of slugs that were feeding there prior to the hogs intervention! Maybe it's just a question of steak over salad as far as the hogs are concerned and that slugs might be more 'interesting' if that was the only food on offer.
