My lupins will wilt like that in a day if they don't get enough water. I drench the things until the drip trays underneath are overflowing almost every day when it's hot. They're in big pots and in as much shade as I can find. They've never complained about overwatering.
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.

Thanks for that. I think I have definitely worried too much about overwatering and therefore ended up underwatering a bit.
I have given her a couple of really good drinks today and she's already perked up no end.
She does really need repotting or putting in the ground but I can't repot as I haven't got any pots at the moment - and I can't put her in the ground as the only space I have available is in full sun - I also have NO idea what kind of soil I have - and I am in rented accommodation anyway...
I think I'll just get a few new big pots from Amazon and go from there!

  • Hi I’m a beginner to. It’s probably aphids so can spray with an insectide. (Not sure if you can do this while in flower though. You might be best waiting till next year and spray the lupins at first sign of aphids). You could help your lupins to by feeding tomorite every week if there in a pot, dead head and trim of unsightly leaves.

About overwatering..   have you ever had rain that lasted a week?  Often happens here, sometimes longer,  you can’t regulate the rain and the plants survive. Just make sure it drains out and you haven’t got them in deep saucers.

I keep an old basin for emergency soaks. Wait until the plant is soaked to the level of the water and then keep topping up with water until it's completely saturated. Unfortunately, you don't get the satisfaction of seeing air bubbles at the surface.
Smaller pots get dunked in a bucket of water overnight.
    In London. Keen but lazy.

  • She's definitely perked up today!
Has had plenty of drinks, moved to a shaded spot, now just need to repot it but don't have any pots yet - I am on it though (I can't put it in the ground as the only place I have available is in full sun....)

Yay!  She’s looking sooo much better ... and in a much better condition so she can shake off any damage by errant insects 👍

Well done, you’ve saved it! On a different note.. the first picture you posted showed your lupin in a much larger looking blue pot but now it seems to be in a much smaller brown one? With regards to containers.. you could improvise a bit by using an old bucket or even one of those supermarkets ‘bags for life’ as long as you make holes at the bottom for drainage. Those would hold easily up to 10 litres of compost I reckon and that’s plenty.. definitely big enough for the first year until you find the lupin it’s permanent home.

The plant was always in this smaller brown one, the blue plastic pot was just around it for prettiness!
Thanks for the tips - I'll have a look and see what I've got :)
