Apple tree problems

HalleSHalleS Posts: 105

Hi everyone. I’m sure this question has been answered but I can’t seem to find anything. I planted my first ever (gala) apple tree this year and it was looking really healthy at first but now the leaves look pretty sad. I’ve been trying to control the aphids on it but I’m wondering if something else is the issue. I’ve looked online and can’t seem to find any similar pictures. Any help would be great!

I asked the same question, this is one of the leaves off my 1 year old tree, the top shoots look fine, but I am getting a little worried for it.

@pclark42 afraid your pic does not show the whole tree or where it is planted

    ☹️
And why are it’s branches entangled amongst those two stakes and plastic ties?
it only needs one stake and a proper tree tie which can be adjusted as the tree grows. https://www.gardenersworld.com/how-to/grow-plants/how-to-plant-a-bare-root-fruit-tree/

One branch is poking out through the plastic tree guard ... this is likely to damage the bark which will let infection in and possibly kill the branch.

We can’t see the base so we have no idea whether it’s planted in a pot or the ground and whether or not it has a clear circle of bare soil around it (diameter 1m) to allow for proper feeding and watering.

Without the information I requested it’s hard to help ☹️

Dovefromabove , I have removed the plastic as it wasn't helping and tried to free off that awkward branch, look at the broken leaves !!!

😊 it looks happier already 👍

I think I’d just make sure it doesn’t dry out over the summer ... one bucket of water three times a week minimum ... more in hot dry spells ... from now until mid September. It’s still getting its roots settled.
