Main Growing Tip Snapped Off My TomPlant

The main growing shoot got snapped off by the wind 10 days ago. No more side shoots are growing either. Is this plant finished?

Thanks for any input.s

Give them another week you should get a suitable side shoot which can take over as the main stem, it will set the plant back a bit but not a disaster yet.

  • Thanks. Regards side shoots, once a side shoot has been pinched out will another one grow from the same place where the first one was removed?

Mine do (and sometimes there's a new shoot from below the level of the compost). Wait and see is the best plan for now.

Mine are definitely growing new shoots where others have already been removed ... good luck 🤞

All of the above.  Tomatoes are about the only plant that can self-heal.  You make a mistake - wait a bit and lo and behold - regrowth!  No worries, mate!

  • Ok, thanks to all for the help. I just thought at least one new side shoot would have appeared by now.....11 days

It's been quite cool for a few days which I've noticed has paused the growth on my toms.
I often find a new side-shoot appearing where I've taken one out previously, and your plant's only purpose in life is to grow and produce seed, so your plant will be trying hard, but it may need the warmth that is arriving next week - assuming it doesn't get so hot that they stop growing again..

Ah! in which case just keep your fingers crossed.
Tomatoes also stop growing when temps are regularly above 30c
