    Not like any Amelanchier I've ever seen either.
    I looked up that Exochorda and it does look like that. I can't help on the pruning as I've only ever had one in a previous garden, and it wasn't that one.
    I can't see that it would do any harm to prune it back a bit generally, to get a better shape. It'll be difficult for it to establish just now anyway - at that size, and at this time of year, so it should benefit it. It might take a while to recover and grow, but you'll hopefully get it back to good health, and then enjoy the flowers in future. 
    It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
