Afternoon. I think it's going to stay dry so will try to get out and do (yet more!) cutting back this afternoon. I have lots of hardy geraniums, brunnera and astrantia and I do like to cut all these right back to the ground at about this time to get rid of tatty foliage and promote lots of fresh growth. If I do it now, things should be growing back by the time we come home (that's the plan anyway...).
Nanny B - you've been very busy before I was even awake! Love coffee & walnut cake but my hips love it too much🙂
SGL - hope the weather dries up for you so you can get on with your staining.
Chive - do you finish work again soon? I've not been able to work out if some schools are staying open over the summer this year - perhaps primarily for childcare?
LB - lovely passion flower. Not something I've ever grown - but at £1.49 I might have been tempted too.
Rosie & Rubee - hope you and the cats are all ok
Ante - how is beautiful Croatia just now? I've been looking at photos from when we were sailing there a few years ago. It was beautiful.
Chey - hope you're keeping a bit better at the moment.
Hazel - have you decided whether you can visit your mum yet? I think we're going to be seeing quite a bit more of MIL over the rest of the summer now we can move around a bit more.
Yvie - enjoy Ashwoods - it's on my list of places to visit when we're next in that part of the world
Debs - pretty butterfly you found - glad it's not a tomato muncher!
Went to the SM this morning. Town was a little busier than of late - but nothing like it would usually be. Still a lot of shops closed - including a Toni & Guy hairdresser which surprised me. I thought hairdressers were flat out at the moment (24 hrs to go for mine...🥳). Some of the shops were completely emptied of stock suggesting they won't be reopening - I think many town centres will look very different next year😢
Heaven is ... sitting in the garden with a G&T and a cat while watching the sun go down
Afternoon all. T'Bird, you just mentioned my hairdresser in your post. I am waiting - slightly impatiently - for them to call me as the message on their website said that they would be dealing with people, whose appointments had to be cancelled, first and I fall into that category. It is quite sad to think that some of the smaller retail outlets will be gone for good.
Handy brother rang me to say he has had his haircut today. He just went on spec (Ante - meaning without an appointment) and got in straight away. This is his regular hairdresser and she asked if he had a mask - he did - and while she was cutting his hair she cut straight through it! She did replace it though. This harks back to our earlier discussions about how they cut hair whilst clients are mask wearing. Not all hairdressers are insisting on masks though and it is not compulsory apparently. Bestie's daughter, who does my hair colour was telling me that from the instructions she had received. She has a visor to wear and was showing me a bag she has purchased, that plugs into her car's cigarette lighter. It looks a little like a cold bag but once plugged in it sanitises all her combs, brushes, rollers (some people still have rollers!) and scissors etc. I thought that was a great buy for her.
T'Bird, I know you told us you were going away this Thursday but if you told us where you are going I have forgotten - sorry. Will we have the joys of another 'Tale of T'Bird's Travels' this time?
Cacoethes: An irresistible urge to do something inadvisable
LB, That's exactly what I was saying to my OH the other day about masks.....We want to get some washable ones.......but I did say we should get some disposable ones too, because when the time comes I wouldn't want to wear a more expensive washable one to the hairdressers in case she cut it while cutting my hair!  It must be very hard to style and cut with masks in the way. Too windy and cold outside today, hopefully I can get outside tomorrow 🤞🤞
I have to say that like Ruby, I thought that the heraldic lion was an older version of the Peugeot Logo but it wasn't. Anyway, the answers are all above for you to chack out any you weren't sure of. I'll post another quiz on Wednesday.
Cacoethes: An irresistible urge to do something inadvisable
LB a good idea for the hairdresser with the hand sanitiser.  I’m due to trim my own hair, I might do it next week.  Topbird i hope you’re all organised for your travels.  The cats are well and the sun is now shining brightly.  Take care of yourselves.  I’m watching the Wimbledon Rewind Borg v McEnroe, they look so young and it’s rather a speedy game.
Afternoon all, Been in the garden for a couple of hours, deadheading and tidying mainly. Bought a Heuchera Obsidian and Hosta Popcorn at Ashwoods so planted them too and moved a rather large pot to a new location. I also bought a couple of houseplants at Ashwoods a Maranta and a spotty Begonia. I wanted a string of hearts, been trying to get one for a while but the only one I could find was really expensive and with the postage I couldn't really justify the cost.Â
Afternoon All, decided to do the SM run after work not too busy thankfully, LB Well that was a lovely surprise to see your Passion Flower it’s a beauty, they are very sneaky! I’m pleased you have got some flowers. Good quiz again thank you, quite a few of those Logos caught me out and yet you see them so often. Nanny B crumbs what a lot accomplished first thing in the morning 😳 T’bird Yes our Summer holidays start on the 21st July not long now, I think most schools will close to prepare for the return of all classes in September. Hope MIL is keeping well, Lily Shame the weather stopped your plans for the seat, hope you can get started tomorrow, Yvie I’m glad your eyes are improving must be very irritating, enjoy the trip to Ashwoods,  Rubee Hope you were able to get out and do some gardening today, Rosie Your home haircut makes life much easier when you can do it at your leisure, enjoy watching the tennis, Have a lovely evening everyone.Â
I am old skool, make everything from scratch. My 10 year old grand daughter made me laugh last week, and her Mum, she went to see her Dad at the other grandparents, cake cropped up, she said Nanny (me) says "You want a cake, you make a cake, you DONT buy a cake". I ve got economy 7, so try to get everything done that needs electricity in the cheap period. A couple of sons on long term disability benefits, (mental health issues) seeing them tomorrow. Fresh air, excersise, well I do Jo wicks HIIT X 2 as a warm up then Harley Pasternac weights. I didnt take the dogs out, I sat down just for a cuppa and bit of toast for breakfast. No: 2 daughter bought a skirt on-line, they sent the wrong size, it didnt even fit her 10 year old, they had run out. It was pleated skater shirt, so I had to disasemble it, removed the waist band, took out a couple of pleats, sat down with the radio this afternoon, sewed the waistband back on by hand, buttons, pressed and all ready for her.  Hubby (who had been sitting on his **** said his legs ached, so he took dogs to park for a run with other doggy friends, and then round the block. He is now watering. Tomorrow morning, its crumbles with the blackcurrants, and cheese straws with the leftover pastry.
