Can I ask why people don't like hozelock? Wondering if I'm missing out on something!

Because they don’t last and always end up leaking at the connections. At least, that’s my experience.

We have a Hozelock, it's doesn't leak, but the problem is the rigidity of the hose itself.  We have a big garden, and the hose is always kinking and getting tied up in knots, and if it isn't warm and sunny (to soften the hose), then it's a bugger to put right, and a nightmare to wind it up into it's case.

We plan to get an automatic retractable hose.  For those that have the Hozelock version, do you find that the hose is still very rigid, unless it's a hot day?

I haven't found the Hozelock Superhoze (exanding) to leak or break, but I do suspect it depends on the garden and the usage.  I can imagine that if you are using it for a demanding garden and it's being dragged about or used for long periods each day, it might not hold up as well as a regular hose, because it's made of material. It also depends somewhat on water pressure to expand it, so it's being stressed to some degree, each time you use it. I hear its not great to leave it out in hot sun; it doesn't expand that much. Etc. I have a small garden and use it minimally and don't move it much and to me it's a godsend.

I understand they have also upgraded the design in the last few years as there was some dodgy feedback about problems at the beginning.

Which Gardena hose do people have? There are several types - varying reviews on amazon. I have a 100ft garden, and am growing lots of veg down the bottom, so need a long one. Current hose is driving me *nuts*. It kinks about every 30 seconds. (I think it's a Hozelock one.)

I have one of those contractable concertina hoses at the top. It's sprung a leak after a year, but still useable. This is number 3 of that type in 5 years? ) (No.1 sprang leaks. No.2 exploded when a cat sitter stood on it while watering my tomatoes...) Still useful though for the top of the garden.

What I'd really like is a permanently sited hose running down the side of the garden as far as halfway down to which I can connect a shorter hose. I hate having the long hose trailing down the lawn all the time. It would have to be a good one though. When we moved in there was such a system in place but it's either rotted or is blocked.

I have a hozelock hose and it leaks like a sinking ship.

I've replaced the connectors with Hozelock fittings and they still leak. I'm to tight to buy another so it can leak away.

If I were to purchase a new hose it WONT be hozelock. :s

I don't find any problems at all. I've got the 40m autoreel, it doesn't kink and is flexible for my needs, including 2 90degree bends dragged around corners as I water.

I also don't find the heat affects the hose at all. That may be because it sits in it's cassette all day and so is protected from the sun etc.

It's never leaked, no issues at all. You must remember to empty it correctly before winter storage, but that's all. Maybe I'm lucky but I'd buy it again.

This is the Gardena hose we have. It’s 35 metres long, works perfectly, doesn’t leak or kink, retracts effortlessly and there are many optional extras you can get. From other suppliers you can get it for about £125.

I picked this up from b&q. For £39 you get a 25m hose, spray gun, starter spray, hose reel, sprinkler and all the connectors. Seems a bit of a bargain to me. My local had loads on the shelf.

That's eye-wateringly (!) expensive BenCotto... husband would not be pleased at all if I spent that much.
