I love look of hosta and have room fir couple in my shaded border but put off snails and slugs eat them so never get any I take it no variety is safe I’ve actually never seen any pests in in garden even at nite
We have maybe 30-40 hostas in our tropical area and have no problems with slugs and snails. Im very surprised as there 3 large phormium housing the beasts in the same area, it's heavy clay another favourite and I keep it really damp for the plants that area. Either the slugs aren't hungry, the hedgehog is amazingly brilliant or we just happen to have a slug free garden 😀😀 Anyways we'd be lost without the Hostas and would recommend them to anyone
This is the first year I can remember seeing so many healthy hostas in people's gardens. The excessively dry April made a huge difference. I've largely given up on them. Too much bother keeping slugs away, and that lazy frog isn't helping Phormiums are the favourite hiding place of the big snails we have here @Wilderbeast. I check mine every day for them.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
Oh I’m not sure as them slimey things put me off maybe I look for something else to fill that shade space aww does that mean I get them in my cream delight 🙈 I suppose i Better start checking
I had massive problems with slugs on hostas but earlier this year I moved all mine to pots. Not a single nibble so far with the added bonus being that there is no slug damage on what were neighbouring plants. Luv Dave

None of these things bother me if I'm handling them - slugs as well.
