Few heucheras cope with sun but almost all heucheras are happy in the shade. ;)
Which cultivars do you have in mind?
Sorry for the late reply I have just purchased the marmalade variety as it’s stunning! Will this be ok in deep shade? Or should I try and find a sunnier spot :)?
I have marmalade (not caramel as I first thought) and it's in one of the sunniest positions in the garden. There's so many flowers on it at the moment and the bees are LOVING it!
It’s lovely isn’t it! Sadly I can go only put in a shaded spot. Just a question of how shady 😂
  • @Samridout92 You can't go wrong in shade, it may make a difference in the shade of the leaves but that's about it.

    a) there exist a large number of Heuchera cultivars (hundreds?) and sometimes the difference between 2 given cultivars is hardly visible:
    b) a given H. cultivar may show noticeable colour differences according to time of the year, aspect (sun, shade) and age.
Given these 2 facts, it's sometimes quite impossible to tell 2 heucheras one from the other. ;)

Just out of curiosity,  l had a look on the Gardenia website. In the absence (up to now) of anyone posting who actually grows the two varieties mentioned, there's information here.

    They are very similar.

Indeed PapiJo, but if the comparison is of the 2 cultivars grown in the same conditions in 1 person's garden, it may allow us to tell the difference.

Ah, but if they're gonna be different in a different garden, then how will we know the difference in our different garden?  :)

Got these from secret gardening club. Left to right - Milan, Fire Chief and Ginger Ale.

Wow they look good! Might have to have a look myself on SGC :)

Could anyone help, I have a marmalade variety. Planted 3 weeks ago now I think. The new leaves are coming through more green? Is this normal :)

@Samridout92 hmm you're right that looks a lot more like lime marmalade!
  • @mikeymustard think that could be the case. It’s from a reputable source though which is what’s throwing me. And the fact the older leaves are marmalade 😂 mystery.
