I've had enough!

Of hardening off and waiting to plant outside. This Sunday I plan to plant out my courgettes, squash, pumkins, melons, climbing and dwarf french beans, runner beans, cucumbers and other frost sensitive plants. I'm based in Dunstable now just north of London.

Anyone want to tell me it's a crazy idea? I only have 1,2 or 3 of each plant (small garden space) so I cant risk losing these. Is it okay to go ahead with my plan?

I also don't want the faff of covering them and uncovering them.

Go for it Sabina, I’m sure they’ll be ok now. I won’t be putting mine out until 1st of June but you’re in a warmer area than me.
Trouble now, you’ll need to make sure they’re well watered.

Tell them to man up. That’s what I do. The problem is, snowflakes that they are, they don’t listen.

Thank you for the vote of confidence Lyn! Ben.. I've been telling them that for a while, with a "I'll kick you out tomorrow I will you watch me" thrown in for good measure! They're still sitting all nice and snug in the conservatory..

I found some tomato self seeders today. They've made it through an admittedly mild winter.  I'm inclined to leave my   bought  seedlings  outside at night now - apart from the morning glories which have proved to be absolute wimps. The putty out / takey in game has got a bit old.

I intend the beans going out in the day for the next week and back in at night . Hokey cokey time.

I'm tired of moving stuff in and out this year.

Tonight is 5 C, tomorrow forecast is 5 C overnight here, Sunday though, night temps are creeping up.

Rather than planting out, I will leave them out overnight in their pots from Sunday, if we do suddenly get another cold snap, win win, didn't have to keep moving them every single day, but can get them inside if needs be.

Should say they have already had the daily shuffle for the best part of a fortnight now, usually can go out by now here in Essex, but we've been touch and go with frosts for past few days.

Hokey cokey. That's exactly what it is.
3 weeks, I've been doing it!  Live or die,I say.
I'll inform them that there's plenty more tomatoes in the supermarket. I might also mention that many of their cousins are still in the freezer from last year.

Its the same for me gemma in that we've been doing the hokey cokey for a fortnight now. I did think about leaving them in their nursery pots, but they really are due an upgrade in living quarters now.

I decided two days ago that the Runner Bean plantlets just HAD to go out - they'd been snug in their individual pots in a sunny, unheated greenhouse and were beginning to show 'adolescent' tendencies, ie clinging to each other in intimate fashion! [mindful of a veritable orgiastic writhing that their ancestors indulged in two seasons ago when I delayed the big plant out as an act of misguided kindness!]. So I plucked up my courage & delved carefully in the prepared raised Bean Bed & excavated a total of 27 pot-sized niches for these wayward juveniles. No untoward signs (or sighs) as yet.....Fingers cross'd; despite clear skies at night, the minimum o/n temperature has been no lower than 5C. To garden is to be ever hopeful!!
