    Never had a problem using pencil on plastic labels. Our local garden centre sometimes has packs of labels which include a pencil.

    I usually pinch Hubby's sandpaper to rub my labels too

    Last week I bought 300 lolly sticks on eBay for £4.45, including p&p.

    I do as @Dovefromabove says - a little sanding to break the smooth surface.
    I do that when I re use them too - 'cos I'm a stereotypical mean Scot  :D
    I find the wooden ones are useless here. I used to re use lolly sticks, but they just go mouldy and manky.
    It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

    Thanks all for your labelling suggestions which i definitely will be taking on board after trying to identify about a dozen plants with blank labels!!🤣 Quite exciting i guess as it will be a surprise as to what appears!!

    Ive ordered lolly sticks and a new labelling pen and will be sanding my labels down first and obviously will try pencil as well.
