Climbing Hydrangea - advice needed

Hi,
I brought my climbing hydrangea last year and this year it doesn’t seem to be doing as well. Some leaves have gone black and it doesn’t seem to be growing at all.
It’s in a shaded area in my garden as I was told they are perfect for shade.
Can anybody please offer some advice on what I’m doing wrong, or am I being a little OTT?
Thanks in advance

    A bit dry perhaps?

  • It’s watered every day (however, we hadn’t been doing this up to a week ago, it was only watered every few days) how often should we be watering it?

A good drink every few days should be fine, so maybe it's not water.

  • @pansyface I have read somewhere that they take years to get going but as you say, it just seems to be existing rather than growing. How often do you water yours?

I heard it can take up to seven years to get going.

They do take a long time - years - to get going. And then they grow like Topsy, in my experience.

I bought two, three years ago. Both did pretty good the first year after planting, then one died towards the end of year two. I inadvertently cut off the water supply to its planting hole with a brick planter. The one that lived is doing fairly well.
