I wasn’t allowed to bath or wash my hair for the whole time I had a period,   I dreaded to think what may have happened.
I did know that as a young teenager by the end of the week my hair looked liked I’d dipped it in the chip pan.

I've heard many "old wives tales! in my life but not that one!

  • Oh yes that one was quite common when I was in my teens … my mother had been brought up that way but didn’t really give it credence by the time I was growing up … but back in those days we only bathed once or perhaps twice a week, whether we needed it or not.

I heard it when I was a teen, as something that someone's granny had told them. Neither my generation nor our mothers believed it, as far as I can tell.

My mother believed it. I was also not allowed in the loo till at least 10 minutes after my father or any male visitor , same with my sister. She never explained why. Also if you had Pork for dinner it should never be followed by a sweet course with rhubarb ,again no explanation.

Isn’t it true you can get pregnant from a toilet seat? 😀

A  lot of gardeners used to let their potatoes go green to use as seed years ago, I don't think it's the done thing now a days.
