I wasn’t allowed to bath or wash my hair for the whole time I had a period, I dreaded to think what may have happened. I did know that as a young teenager by the end of the week my hair looked liked I’d dipped it in the chip pan.

Oh yes that one was quite common when I was in my teens … my mother had been brought up that way but didn’t really give it credence by the time I was growing up … but back in those days we only bathed once or perhaps twice a week, whether we needed it or not.

I heard it when I was a teen, as something that someone's granny had told them. Neither my generation nor our mothers believed it, as far as I can tell.

My mother believed it. I was also not allowed in the loo till at least 10 minutes after my father or any male visitor , same with my sister. She never explained why. Also if you had Pork for dinner it should never be followed by a sweet course with rhubarb ,again no explanation.
