These ones don't require pruning unless they're outgrowing their space, so no need to worry about that. If it's going to be difficult to get out of the pot, the next best thing is to make sure you just refresh a bit of the soil each year. These types don't need quite so much attention as the bigger, blousier summer flowering varieties. The best time to move them is later in the year - after flowering is ideal, or early autumn.

Mine is quite old and storm damaged and needs cutting back and rejuvenating but there’s a robins’ nest there so we’ll have to wait until they’ve finished with it
