It seems you’ve been miss informed ... the free seeds are only with the £7.99 bumper edition.

  • Thanks for responce. I saw a post on gardeners world that advertised the magazine with free packets of seeds it did not say there was two editions. Everywere local to me only sells normal edtion not the bumber if i had known there was a difference i would have been more than happy to spend that bit extra.  I dont understand the point in selling two editions its just confusing to the customer. And disappointing.

    .
Does anyone actually sow the "FREE"seeds they get from GW mag?
Not me! I actually get from Garden News and Amateur Gardening as well, I actually keep and sow about one packet per year thats all, I used to take them to the Gardening Club and place on the freebe table, no one took very many, if any,now I just dump them in the bin

Why?  Don’t  you like growing from seed? Aren’t you very good at it?  Or are you a rich oil baron with more money than you know what to do with?

When there are folk on this forum who actually have to budget to afford a few packets of seed each year, why don’t you offer them on the Seedswap thread rather than waste them?

I know that’s what you intended to say ... you came across loud and clear 🙄  nevertheless many folk get good results from them every year and post about them on the forum.

This year so far I’ve had poor germination from the free tomatoes but great results so far from the rudbeckias ... far better germination than with the expensive ones I bought from Sarah Raven last year.

The thing is, a lot of gardeners plan ahead and have bought their seeds earlier in the year ... they may be the sort of folk who like to stick to their plans and not grow something they’ve not planned for. Others are more adventurous 😊

I sow them all!  I love them!  I find flowers I never knew anything about and veg I would otherwise never grow.  Mostly they work and I have a very untidy but colourful garden as many of them pop up year after year and I let them.

    The more the merrier.

@Dovefromabove you are so right I have had excellent results from free seeds and always offer spares on the seed thread. I love a freebie!
  • I sow most of the flower seeds but not in general the vegetables as I'll already have ordered what I need. I do like to get them though and might use the next year if I don't have space this year.

Like Dovefromabove has found poor germination from the tomatoes, good with the Rudbeckias and I think the Nigella we had with GW are flying ! Win some lose some.
