Evening everyone - sorry I've been AWOL but we seem to have been very busy these last few days. House render is clean, the small inner garden hedges have been trimmed (too small for birds to nest in), the veg bed has been prepped and the first lot of pea plants are in. Muppet me shredded all the twiggy pea sticks last week so I've had to construct some rather wonky make-do-and-mend supports out of bits scavenged from around the garden. The peas went in yesterday morning and the slugs or pigeons found them last night 🤬. Preventative measures have been taken today!
Hazel - I was so sorry to read about your OH's aunt. It's a shame you can't go to her funeral but maybe the family can do something to celebrate her life when we are all on a more normal footing (as so many of us are planning to do).
Ante - you've been working so hard again - well done! Hope your mum is feeling ok after her fall.
LB - Oooh - that quiz on Saturday was a bit of a toughie! Hope you can get your car sorted out soon. It's nice to know you could get yourself somewhere even if you have no plans to do so!
Rubee - Hope you're feeling a little better. Lovely pics from your garden - it always looks like such an interesting and inviting space. I get the impression it's quite small but it looks like a good sized space because of how you've planted it. On which note - didn't you just love that tiny 5m x 5m garden in London on this week's GW? So cleverly planted it looked at least 3 times the size. Clever people - wish I had that talent.
@star gaze lily - We have a very slippery bath. I've fallen back in that more times than I care to remember - hope the wrist is ok. Have you ordered the roses yet? If not, I would caution against Eglantyne. I had to take her out because she was always covered in black spot and was a very poor doer for me. Also very spiny.
I can recommend DA Wisley 2008. Pretty pink flowers throughout summer, sweet scent and a strong, well behaved grower for me. Makes a nice healthy shrub rose which I keep to about 1.2m. Often still has a few buds on in December.
OH is cooking dinner tonight. Time for me to pour a dwinkies....
Heaven is ... sitting in the garden with a G&T and a cat while watching the sun go down
Evening TBird , thank you for your good wishes and comments on my garden .The little garden on GW was lovely . So many interesting plants .Good to hear that you have got a lot of your jobs done. I think that you deserve that drink .
Evening all. Wow I really really do want a go on a cherry picker. How cool is that! I reckon that your pea sticks will do just fine T'Bird. Good to see you back. Ruby, I also loved that little garden on GW last Friday. As T'Bird said, I wish I had the vision to create something so lush. By the way, I reckon all your slugs and snails have moved to my garden! I have got loads. Hopefully all my blackbirds and robins will start to pay me back for feeding them through the Winter by eating all the pests.
Cacoethes: An irresistible urge to do something inadvisable
How lovely Hazel, will be a very special portrait for little 23 🤗🤗 Yes Topbird, have ordered a rose.....whiter shade of pale. Hopefully this one will be ok.
Oh heck I've just woken up on the sofa. I do hope this doesn't mean I won't get a good night's sleep again. Hope Debs and LB manage to get a good night's sleep too after last night. Debs, hope you had a good day at work and not too hectic. Night night everyone
