I have an Oranges and Lemons border, so would say yes! Actually I am not fond of yellow but my OH loves it, so compromises are made.

I like white with pale blues and yellows OR with pale mauves and pinks, and  I like my hot colours (reds, oranges, purples, hot pinks) all together, but with plants there's always the buffer of plenty of foliage so I think combinations that might not work with clothes or interior decor can work with plants.
Put together whatever looks good to you and don't worry about what other people think. Most things can be moved if they don't work out as well as you thought they would.

I take it those lilies are new plants you've bought in flower which means they've likely been forced.  They're certainly weeks, if not months, ahead of what we'd expect here so no, don't plant them with the daffs as they won't behave like that next year.

Put them in big tubs near the house where you can watch them for lily beetle or else plant them in a hot border where they will be at home with similar strong colours or else go for the strong blue, vibrant orange combo in another bed.

I think you should go with the advice in Dove's link and wander about the garden with a plant or something in the colour you're considering and see what,to your mind, matches.
If you plant something that offends, hoik it out and move it or compost it. Please yourself and everybody or nobody else. It's your garden.
If you make a mistake, you don't have to live with it forever!

Whilst I am trying to tune in to flowers after reading this thread I found myself thinking thank goodness I don't have this problem with my veg and herbs. They get planted, they grow, the herbs flower - I eat. End of story. It seems there's more to this flower malarkey than I thought.
