Thatâs tough @Hostafan1. The measures announced say 80% of average monthly profits over the preceding three years, so although Hubbyâs cancer will have reduced his average earnings over that period, he should still be entitled to claim something. Ideally, there should be some way of recording self-employed sickness though to up the payments, like a doctorâs note or hospital records.
What about those who have recently turned self-employed and donât have 3 yearâs accounts? My OH went self-employed in January and payments for initial invoices issued havenât come through yet and everyone is asking for payment holidays. We have had to borrow money from friends to see us through. Will her 2 yearâs prior employment count? There will be lots of people slipping through the gaps, including us!

You donât need three years but you need a minimum of having filed SE taxes for 2019. Anyone newer than that will not get any grant money.Â
Regarding a bad year, yes itâs averaged from up to three years so although the bad year will lower the overall amount, he will still be entitled to something. Â
@Fairygirl yes. way back in the last century, my husband was paid in cash. It wasn't always possible to bank the money straight away. Fortunately, the stratagem was never actually tested but I'm pretty sure it would work for chocolate.
