I would have to say my cheap unnamed apricot/peach/cream bush rose far exceeded my expectations and was beautiful in it's first year. Can't wait to see it flower next year after I've planted it into the ground - somewhere!
@Marlorena Yes I'm not being too harsh about the Munstead Woods because of that. Look forward to seeing how your own roots progress.
The best performing rose this year by far has been Lady Emma Hamilton. It is still putting out some blooms now. A close second has been Corvedale, which is interesting as it started the season flopped all over the ground, which I became frustrated with and chopped those flopped canes back, and it responded with throwing up a lot of vigorous upright growth and many flowers. It has quite an awkward phase before coming into its own, at least for me, but despite this has the potential to be quite a spectacular rose.
I'm looking forward to seeing many of my roses grow up and progress but I instantly loved my first year Gallica officinalis with its perfumed pinkness.
Very interesting hearing all the favourites. Very much a lurker in this thread - anyway, my favourite among about 12 roses is Westerland; every changing, wonderful fragrance, healthy, and its habit so far seems to gell well with the pergola.
TCL emailed me to say my roses will be sent out next week and that Salita, the heat tolerant orange climber I ordered, is not available. Shame, I had a good, sunny spot for it. I went for Mutabilis instead, which should also cope with my summer temps. I might not plant it in the same spot though, have to think about that one. We can compare notes on it, @Marlorena and @iaincd 😊
Mountainous Northern Catalunya, Spain. Hot summers, cold winters.
My Beales order of 'Ab Fab' unexpectedly arrived this morning, and it looks very healthy with plenty of canes and good roots...but unfortunately a couple of the roots are way to long to fit in the pot it's going in (see photo). Would it be OK to reduce them by half in order to make it fit.
Excellent @Omori. I think Mutabilis can take a while to settle in and flower profusely, is that your past experience @Marlorena?
@PeteS you can trim those roots no problem to fit in your pot. Ab Fab is a great rose, hope you enjoy it.

This is one of the miniatures from TCL. Excuse the orange label. Lovely hips. I’m wondering if I could plant some of the seeds, but the process seems to be overly complicated (involving bleach and peroxide etc.). Have any of you tried to grow roses from seeds?

Weird weather here...slushy snow, now a sudden downpour of hail while the sun is shining...
