Some of them are strategically placed to hold down folds/creases too. I had a lot of excess material in some areas so in the end I folded it over and then weighed it down. I didn’t want any awkward bits that creatures could get stuck in!

Ive got more cobbles and a whole bag of pebbles left, so I’ll be bringing the beach up and over the edge to hide the liner there. Possibly build up a stony wall where I’ve already put some down at another side. Then put some more logs around the outside for cover. Planning to let grasses etc. grow right up to the edge.

It is fun! But I’m absolutely exhausted. Those rubber liners are really heavy!

@Mr. Vine Eye I love your Ghislaine dF and Malvern Hills. Your garden will be absolutely lovely when they get bigger.
I also like the pond. Do you plan to have stones everywhere? I think the stones/sand on the bottom vs. just a liner is a personal preference, personally I feel that the liner is visible even in deep ponds and the gold colour is much nicer than black. But then, there is a problem with plants and hiding the pots (or planting in sacks of soil hidden in stones/gravel/sand. In the end, when you want to hide everything, it makes the pond considerably smaller.

Pond looks great. What plants do you have planned? I think filling it will definitely be fun, and pay off for all that work

@Marlorena...that looks mightily impressive, if mine turns out half as good as that I'll be very pleased. I see what you mean about the pot, but Beales actually says it is suitable for pots, can you believe it. Any way my policy with pots from now on is a maximum of 2-3 years, if I like 'em they'll go in the ground, if not they're binned.
One more point, mine cost £8.99, would that be the exact same plant that DA sells for 20 odd quid.

@peteS Yes, the same rose. It's a Meilland rose and one of their best and most famous.
  • @edhelka - I’m not really fussed about hiding the liner, it’s not offending me as much as I thought it might. The rock placement is purely to create sheltered spots for critters.
I had read that adding sand or gravel to the bottom can make it a lot easier for plants to spread and get out of hand.

I think once the pond is established with plants around the outside and inside - water surface cover with lily pads etc. Then the liner won’t be as noticeable anyway.

@sarinka - I’m not sure, have been trying to find a good list of best buys so I don’t have to think about it too much. Marsh Marigold, water forget me not, yellow flag iris and a water lily - was thinking of getting Alba as it’s native but I’m not sure if my pond is big enough.

I need your help to decide which 4 roses would be best for a friend who is completely new to gardening. We need medium sized shrubs, all different colours. Very good desease resistance is more important than fragrance. As new gardener, seeing blackspots is heartbreaking.

Soil is london clay, there is choice of where to plant it so can be full, sun, part sun so that doesnt matter much.

So far I have thought of
    Julia Child - yellow
    Olivia Rose Austin - pink
    Desdemona - white
    Velvet fragrance - red
    Super Trouper - orange

Though I am not too sure about white, It would be better to get all colourful ones but desdemona is so lovely!

Also Velvet  fragrance have been better than my all other reds but still not sure if that would be best red choice.
