Considering all our battles with BS these days, and considering it wasn't a problem when the air was polluted with sulphur from coal fires, I'd love to know what problems they did have with roses in the 'olden' days.

I just read that the winter of 1860/1 was particularly harsh, and lots of roses (a bit on the tender side) perished. So ... as usual ... the weather!
Do you think it would be possible to successfully dig up and move (possibly into a pot) my 'Harlow Carr' in the Autumn. The reason being is that it has been growing right on the corner of a paved area for the last 10 years or so, so I'm thinking a fair chunk of root would've grown under the paving on two sides and would be impossible to lift without doing damage.
Sale Alert - Peter Beales has 35% off potted roses of anyone is interested. The code is SEP20. If you’ve bought from them before you have probably had the email too!
Mountainous Northern Catalunya, Spain. Hot summers, cold winters.
...this hybrid tea rose 'Eisvogel' from Tantau has rebounded with good foliage, after losing it all in July.. and some nice blooms too... sweetly scented, and the colour reminds me of Eustacia Vye a bit..
Great work on the pond @Mr. Vine Eye It will be so interesting to watch it all develop if you will be so kind as to share photos.
Scepter'd Isle seems like a rewarding rose for those that have it @Bright star really lovely
Hansa is a great colour @poppyfield64 . I hope Storm Cloud does what you hope for, pretty thing.
I went straight to see which roses were left to get 35% off but relieved to be able to resist @Nollie, given I had already succumbed to these from Cottage Memories . They arrived today, I was a bit worried about leftovers but even before seeing the plants the fabulous scent told me there were flowers! Proper Job and Arthur de Sansal. The rich velvety purple not fully showing in the pic btw Teasing Georgia has quite a few buds and has put on reasonable growth, leaves are very pale though.
@Tack, I've also got pale leaves on a couple of my roses so I've given them a seaweed root drench in the hope they turn greener. I'm not sure how long it might take though. Like the boardwalk!
Gorgeous colour on Arthur de Sansal @Tack, lovely treat! Your Teasing Georgia does look a bit chlorotic, a dose of sequestered iron would perk it up - my Lady Em gets that very easily and that always does the trick.
A long wait for another bloom on Soul and a few more buds developing but so far, rather underwhelming in terms of flower power. Had to prop this on the fence to photograph, oddly much weaker-necked than previous ones:
July potted purchase Rose de Rescht. Cute little 5cm bloom, but the strong old rose fragrance really packs a punch for it’s size. I’m really looking forward to seeing this rose in it’s full glory next year:

@Nollie It is a lovely late-season treat, the flowering one is Proper Job BTW, odd name but goes with my Easy Does It! I love the colours on your roses, I am destined to own RdR I am sure. My Heidi Klum is about to flower, do you get a huge fragrance from yours too?
I used an ancient yellow chelated iron powder on TG last week. The label is long lost so I bunged 1 heaped 10ml spoon's worth into a 1 gall watering can. If it's going to work how soon should I notice?
@Lizzie27 I received my online order of seaweed drench today and will use it this week. Fingers crossed it does our roses good.
The Boardwalk is our only access from the drive into the garden, we are built into a hill, you are seeing less than half of it. I like the name , I will attempt to refer to it as that rather than The Ramp now. I daren't imagine how many wheelbarrow/mower/bin/sack trolley etc trips have been on it in the 32 years since my Dad built it.
