I have just been talking to a colleague at the DoH and he says there will be a total lock down imposed from Friday.
This is not a certain fact, but he is fairly senior and I believe him.
I am not trying to panic people, but I believe forewarned is forearmed.

Do you know what is meant by ”total lockdown”?

I think we’re expecting the vulnerable groups will need to self isolate from this weekend for 12 weeks or something, is this the same thing?

I think it will be the same as France. It will mean everyone, other than for essential shopping and essential work, but obviously this comes with a proviso, that I cannot be sure it is correct.

That would be surprising but I suppose we should brace for any potential guidance or ruling by the gov in the coming months.

In France, we now have to download, print and sign an "attestation d'honneur" that we are only out of our homes to shop for food for our household or for vulnerable people, to go to work because we can't work from home or to walk our dogs in the area surrounding our home.   This has to be presented to the police on demand.

Schools, colleges, universites, bars, cafés, restaurants, non essential shops all closed.  Sporting fixtures, concerts, exhibitions cancelled.

No social gatherings, no family gatherings, no group activities even in the open air, just solitary walkies and essential shopping and travel.

15 days and then, presumably, a review.

I recently received this message from my friend. She got it from her DIL who works for Age UK. They got the information from a Consultant Paediatrician in London
It is advised that noone uses anti inflammatories (e.g. Ibuprofen; Voltarol; Naproxen and others) for pain and high temperatures. Use paracetamol instead. There seems to be a link between severe cases of Covid-19 affecting young people with no underlying illnesses and taking anti inflammatories. Initial reports started coming from French doctors on Friday. There are 4 young people in ICU in Cork who have no underlying illnesses - all were taking anti inflammatories and there are concerns there that this has caused a more severe illness. Apparently French TV and Radio broadcast the same warning today. Age UK have asked that this message gets passed on.

I heard that about anti inflammatories on the radio yesterday @Ladybird4. The doc there was explaining about how they suppress the body's natural defence.
Are you recovered from your illness from a couple of momths ago?

I hope your son is ok @debs64. Is he self isolating or similar?

@Fairygirl I have finally (touch wood and fingers crossed) seen the back of that illness. I hadn't heard that news about the anti inflammatories but decided it wise to pass on the message. I've just heard from my youngest sister in Co. Durham that she had heard it yesterday too. She is the manageress of a cafe so I think she will be struggling soon.
