    Proven cases in the U.K.
Thanks @punkdoc. Sound advice is always welcome.

I haven't seen any comment yet about whether it's causing more or less severe illness in SA - my understanding is that often the successful mutations will be less lethal, but I'm sure there are no guarantees.

I'm still staying in (have been since March 2020) but was hoping to go out with a few friends in about 3 weeks' time - my first contact with anyone except OH and one niece in 2 years. I was - still am - looking forward to it. I've had my flu jab, will have had my booster by then and I'm hoping there'll be a bit more information on omicron by then. I really don't want to have to cancel but I will if I must  :/

  • Thanks @punkdoc, do we know where the  cases are located?

Brentwood and Nottingham I believe @Allotment Boy, both connected to S.A.

Some very early work from SA suggests that Omicron is between 10 and 50 times more transmissable than Delta.

I will probably be accused of shroud waving, but what little evidence there is seems very alarming.

I would stick by what I said yesterday: avoid crowded places, stop going to the pub, avoid public transport, DO NOT FLY.

Within 2-3 weeks we should know a lot more and maybe able to relax a little.

I was going to Ely on December 11th to visit the market and attend a carol concert in the cathedral. Not now, I’m not.

I might try to get a refund on my train ticket but I expect admin charges will swallow up almost all the cost.

Just digesting the info from the briefing and some other reading… will checking for the new variant on PCRs create extra work/delays then??

Have a feeling I will have to be the Crimbo Grinch at work, to suggest whether we cancel our ‘do’. As most of the team are 30 ish, I expect they won’t feel as worried as me.
