I feel so upset about this,  I fear for my son who has to battle through all this lot with his van, delivering,  it was bad enough last year, even worse this year.
And the abuse the hospitality staff have had to put up with,  no wonder no one wants to take those jobs.
I’ll  be glad when Emmet season’s over.

There are 15 ICU beds in Treliske Cornwall main hospital.

  • Dr Campbell is quoting reports from experts now saying that they no longer think herd immunity is  possible even with 90% + vaccination.  Vaccination will still protect against severe disease,  but now only 50% effective in  stopping infection.

I’ve just caught a cold. At least I hope it’s a cold as it’s classic cold symptoms rather than Covid ones but I’ll get a lateral flow test tomorrow as a precaution.

But my worry is, how did I catch the cold? I have been following Covid protocols from the outset, and doing so diligently as my wife is on the extremely vulnerable list. My question for anyone who has insight on the matter is whether cold germs are more widespread than Covid germs.

I see there were 35,693 Covid cases on Wednesday. How many people caught a cold that day? Fewer? More? Considerably more? I’d like to know.

That is interesting @BenCotto. As you say, how on earth can you have caught a cold?
We were just saying the other day, we've had no colds since Feb 2020 (and they were classic colds, my daughter first, then my husband and then me) but since the beginning of July this year we've stayed all round the country, been to parties, a wedding, a car rally, ate out in restaurants, been on buses and been shopping - must have met hundreds of people - and still no colds (says she with fingers crossed!).

    How very odd.

Do remember that the top COVID symptoms appear to be different for each vaccination status, and also Delta seems to present differently from previous variants. I hope your LFT is negative 🤞🏼

I have spent today doing nasal swabs on lots of 11 year olds. What an introduction to secondary school!

What a relief. Went to Boots first thing to get the test, did the swab - my eyeballs are still complaining thinking they were under attack from that cotton bud, and the result came back as clear. If the sun was out and over the yard arm I’d be drinking champagne.

I imagine this is an urban myth but my gardener has just told me that schoolchildren are putting a dab of orange juice on the test strip which gives a positive reading and so gets them off school for 10 days.
