Comparing Sweden with other Scandinavian countries is fair. In terms of Covid deaths per head of population, Sweden is the 24th worst in the world. Denmark is 88th, Finland 108th and Norway 109th.

  • Anyone know about the allergic reactions to the vaccine?a friend of mine is allergic to penicillin and thinks he can't have it.hes 56 so won't be having it for a while anyway

If there's so many cases in the hospital, it's probably not a bad thing to have a delay.  As long as you can manage without it causing you  problems.
Yeah, I can hold out its not urgent for me. Far more in need now I'm sure.

So far only 2 have been reported out of thousands of people given the vaccine.  They are saying only those who have severe allergic reactions should avoid it.  Usually people who need an EpiPen are in this category.

Good question @the tidy gardener . I too am allergic to Penicillin and am definitely not eager to have the vaccine until more research is done.
Information given about reactions don't even touch on those who need an epipen @Allotment Boy, it simply recommends those who have had allergic reactions to medicines, food or vaccines not to have the Covid vaccine.

My wife, group 4 and also allergic to penicillin, wondered the same thing Tidy Gardener. Apparently the two nurses who had reactions have severe allergy problems and always have epipens on them. I hope clarification will be issued soon.

I've not had the flu vaccine as i've not been on the list until this year. I have text after text inviting me to the drop-in centre but as yet haven't taken up the offer. Doubt that i will.

No problems with the flu jab - she has had that for about the past 10 years. One time, though, her max fax surgeon tried to prescribe her amoxicillin and it was fortunate that my wife is medically literate and swiftly pointed out to him the error of his ways.

This article in the FT gives a measure of reassurance about the Covid vaccine and penicillin allergy.

  • 2nd granddaughter has tested positive now , she is older than her sister & has more symptoms,  no family have been more careful.  They are blaming transmission in the home for continued high rates but it's the children bringing it home from school.  I always thought this was a big issue.  :s
