I heard that about the low temperatures but the scientists were optimistic about sorting out the teething troubles and as apparently some viruses have no possibility of a vaccine this is a definite plus. I also heard that the UK will get 30 million vaccines.
I know many people who feel vulnerable will be happy to hear that for a change the scientists have good news for us.

Storing and transport at -80°C will be a major problem

@debs64, I don't know how to put this, without sounding very rude [ not my intention ], but what you have heard and what I know are 2 different things. I am doing this stuff as a job and am party to daily briefings.

We would not be due to get 30 million doses until the latter part of 2021.

    With apologies to Kingsley Amis

After this year of Covid consternation
We rejoice that the vaccine will get us through.
    We smirk at anti-vaxxers apprehension
And give praise that it’ll be given to you.

  • I feel it's too early for them to  have found a vaccine yet and  I would be very worried about having one so soon because of side effects.

This vaccine is exceedingly promising [ technically different from the way many vaccines are produced ], BUT as many very sensible scientists have already said today, EVEN if it is a goer, it will not change the need for: effective track and trace, changed social behaviour and all the other things that we are reluctant to do.

It may only provide 4 months immunity.

  • But if the rest of us have had the vaccine then there’s only the 10% that they can infect ... not perfect I grant you, but a helluva lot better than the current situation.
I'm probably behind the times here but I'm not aware of any proven vaccine being offered any time soon.
Lots of research and talk but that's about it as far as I understand. I'd guess it will take a tads longer than 12 months for an effective vaccine to be produced and available to all.

Oh yes i agree ... I’m only ‘talking’ hypothetically. This is what is being discussed today ... but I’m not holding my breath ...

@punkdoc no need to apologise I am just going from what I have heard on the radio. I understand that other measures will be needed. I am just happy we are getting to a place where a vaccine is a possibility. I think it will make all the difference.

I know Debs, but all the masks I have come with instructions, people just don't take any notice
