A neighbour just a few years older than me had polio as a small child and had a leg iron and a bad limp because of it.  My mother had diphtheria as a child  and nearly died ... she made damn sure we had all our jabs and I made sure Wonky and her brother did too. Sadly Wonky caught Whooping cough as a small baby before she was old enough for the jab ... she was soooo ill poor little thing ... and poor us too ... it’s no fun nursing a child with whooping cough ... maybe some of the antivaxxers might think differently if they’d ever had to do it. 😠

My Nan, Born In 1889 wore a boot like that, not through illness.
Dad had diphtheria as a child, is that the one where they cut a hole in the breathing tube?
The worse thing was one of his brothers who had measles, as a result his eyes completely crossed, both looking to his nose. My mum always said they should be kept in a dark room at the start of measles.
No vaccine for me, wasn’t out then and banned each time my children were born 7 years apart, as a result they didn’t have it either, they both had measles together and were fine.
I’m glad they’ve perfected the vaccine now.

Same here @Dovefromabove - mum had diptheria and we had every jab going as soon as they came in.  I've done the same with Possum including getting her the meningitis and cervical cancer vaccines as soon as poss and not waiting for the Belgian health system to decide they were a good idea for everyone to have.   OH and I have also had the Shingles vaccination and get the flu jab each year.

There were queues round the block for the MMR when there was a measles outbreak in Wales a few years back, but the 'movement' has pushed on a lot since then and I'm not convinced any level of risk will convince some of these people to take a safe, effective preventative treatment.

Oh, aparently, I nearly died of whooping cough age 4, yes, you can get TB anywhere but flk are more familiar with the lung variety.A lot of people donn't seen to realise that these "mild childhood problems" can be very unpleasant in adults.

I had whooping cough, then turned into pneumonia when I was 11 months old,  mum wouldn’t let me go into hospital, dreadful place then, and couldn’t afford the doctor, but he came in twice a day anyway saying he would make up the money on his rich patients.
Every year I would get colds as soon as there was one going leading into dreadful coughs,  I just grew out of it,  our very old and old fashioned doctor said these things go in 7 year cycles, and when I got to 7 I was much better.   Don’t know if that was coincidence but it did happen.

Well it has now been 20+ weeks since I had Covid-19. Breathing is still very bad to the point that it interferes or stops me doing many normal jobs around the house and garden. Consultant has said take exercise and it will eventually get better. At this rate it will be into the new year before that happens. Worrying thing is despite all the money and effort thrown into understanding the disease and finding a vaccine, it is only now that they are realising it does have long term effects and not only for these people who were hospitalized.
