So. Two months later and my lawn is destroyed, there must be millions of these things!
The whole lawn has also risen by around 4inches, although it's just mud now with a little grass around the edges.

Not too late to reseed this year. Apply nematodes in early September and keep the soil damp for two weeks.

Will do, I'm going to apply some now as well, hopefully kill some off, the kids play on it (the mud) and it's riddled so any reduction is a bonus.

As adults the larvae are harder, literally, for the nematodes to attack but worth an application to try and minimise any further damage before they hatch later in the summer.

Thanks, we have been seeing the odd crane fly around already but I'll rake up the soil (no grass left except edges) and treat it. It's 12m x 5m that they've destroyed ☹️

Meno star, did you ever get on top of this problem. I feel your pain, we have this same issue in Jan. They are all over our patio and shingle. Absolute nightmare! Even boiling water doesn't seem to work!!! Need help.

I treated the lawn and the patio with nematodes and then cultivated the whole area leaving it for a week and the birds feasted on the remaining.

Then I seeded and grew a new lawn, it looks lovely so well worth the effort.

Then treated the new lawn in September.

Still looks perfect and no sign of them this year.

Never used to bother about daddy long legs but now hate the sight of them 😆
  • What nematode brand did you use please? Think its a bit cold to try it now.
