Mine spawned on the 1st Feb, I’m really happy to say that they have all hatched out and both ponds are covered in them.
A newt was up to the surface having a midwinter feed, hope he groupies back down to hibernate.
Hopefully now, if the weather turns to freezing as it usually does in March, they will go down deeper and survive.

Noticed lots in my pond today, wasn't there two days ago when I checked.

After hearing froggy noises last weekend, I found this today! They always lay it the same place - a little overflow area next to the pond. It’s a shallow area, but often full of water this time of year.

Blimey, I’d be worried they all freeze and turn to mush!
Is there anything I can do to attract frogs to my newish pond @Lyn?
We put it in last June and had damsel flies, water boatmen and some fleas, before long...I am DYING to get spawn in there!

A bumper year @dappledshade! I am expecting that some won’t ‘take’, particularly if we have a cold snap. I think frogs like my pond because it has loads of stones and rocks around it, plus plants, so plenty of places for hiding and sleeping. Even a pile of broken pots will be a little haven for them - I often find a frog in my ‘messy corner’ (old pots, bag of leaf mulch, bits of wood etc) so try something like that too.
Good luck to all the frog spawn out there in all weathers!

@dappledshade. All you can do is provide plenty of plants, grasses, rocks around the edge of your pond in the hope of attracting them, they will come,  just got to be patient.
when they do, make sure you have a beach area as when they get their legs they need to come out of the water.

  • Just checked my pond but not a squidge of spawn yet. Did find a very large frog in a water filled old sink yesterday though so they are about.

Good sign Joyce,  they spawn in all sorts of silly places, my daughter hasn’t got a pond and neither have any of the neighbours but she has lots of frogs in her garden that spawn In all sorts of silly places, one year in her outside loo.  Then in a plastic trug with a drop of rainwater in it, she collects it and puts it in a deep grow bag tray for her children to watch the progress.

  • We we are expecting a really cold night here, so we have been busy tonight doing our best to protect the spawn.
