Looking for radio station which has more music than inane prattling.

  • Simon Mayo is now on Scala Radio, which started a few months ago. This is similar to Classic FM, but with less emphasis on the most well known pieces.

Classic fm?  quite soothing - my "go to" station - and it's even better at Christmas (not the tat songs played endlessly in supermarkets) - lovely festive music with real choirs etc.  If that's your sort of thing!
I never listen to Classic fm in December. "Festive music" is NOT classical music.  They once played Mary's boy child sung by Kiri Te Kenawa, god help us!!
    Stop moaning please 😢😢😢
I've asked for people's suggestions as an alternative to the station I currently listen to.  All opinions, on all radio stations are welcome.  I do want to hear what people don't like about a station as much as what they do.

The suggestion of compiling my own playlists on Ipod or similar are fine, but I don't have a particularly large music collection to work from and really just want to be able to put the car radio on.

Just being able to turn on the car radio for a suitable station is definitely more difficult.

The only old-style radio we still listen to is Radio 4, a bit of Radio 3, Steve Wright, Sarah Cox and OH also listens to (why oh why?) Ken Bruce (banging-head-on-desk emoji needed😉)

That's why we've gone over to internet radio - literally a whole world of radio to listen to. Most of it's carp but there are some goodies too.

When we are in the UK a lot of our driving to see family and friends is along the M4 corridor where Radio 2 FM is impossible for some reason.  I also have to avoid that smarmy chap who's on at midday - skinny, long legs, disaster on SCD and he's usually on as we drive off the ferry.   I end up station hopping and then giving up and playing CDs.

In France I listen to Cherie FM if I can because it has 40 minute stretches of music with no interruption several times a day and plays a list I generally like.   However, they have a weird system over here where one station is broadcast from several masts on difefrentr frequencies around the country and not all are available in all areas.   At home, I can only get Cherie FM upstairs and not in the car.   Then it's Alouette or CDs.

I used to like Capital when I loved in London but I dare say the DJs have changed and I wouldn't recognise it now.

Got to love amazon music it’s just fab. I started out with the station Best of Prime, and gave each track the thumbs up or down to get something liked a lot. It’s not static at all, it keeps introducing new songs, and I’m listening to a lot of music I would never have found otherwise. Really enjoying it.
