@CraighB ok, Craig, here are some photos I just took... I've had my plant for at least 5 years and it's about 3.5 feet tall due to regular hard pruning... I might want a bit more height next year so I'll review how I prune it next Spring... bear in mind my plant is a touch war weary due to being moved 3 weeks ago... I'm surprised it still has all its leaves... ...this would be a fairly hard prune where I've put the white lines... about 30cm above ground...
..this is the upper part and I may choose to prune at these points for a lighter prune as my plant is fairly short... you can prune some lateral shoots short and leave others longer... I suspect I'll probably go with this approach next Spring.. pruning these shrubs is really a matter of seconds with a sharp secateurs... and there's next to nothing else to do... I shall feed with a fairly balanced acid fertilizer that I also use for roses...[Vitax Azalea]...
...you do get autumnal colours creeping it now as well...
...these shrubs are easy and carefree... best wishes to your Mum...
@Marlorena Thank you so much for that detailed info! I can definately see the similarity between your plant and my mum's. They do end up quite bare twiggy plants when all the leaves fall off don't they!
I won't do any pruning this year but I will keep your images as a guide
