I don't think it's unfortunate that we have sparrowhawks taking small birds. They do it to survive and to feed their young.
I'd rather them than poxy cats which just kill for fun.

Buzzards are not very good hunters, have watched them perched in a tall alder then swoop down to rabbits ,never successfully

They do get them ... maybe yours was a youngster... or just one that was rubbish at catching rabbits 😉

We were just missed by a beauty yesterday as we drove along a rural road... he launched himself from a perch on a tree and zoomed across the road a few feet from us as he (?) pounced on the hedgerow ... possibly a woodpigeon there?  He was such a gorgeous russet colour.

Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.

Not necessarily true Marc, especially when the owl attacks a roosting goshawk under cover of darkness. We used to keep European eagle owls, they are immense. Talons like sickles and yet so gentle when taking a dead rat from the glove.
No I meant the one by me, I only see it every so often

We enjoy seeing birds in the garden, I am a member of BTO garden birdwatch and record numbers daily, so do watch fairly closely, we have a large garden so the habitat is good for different species, we both watch from the dining room window where there are four feeders in view.

Lovely ☺ do you get any unusual birds from the regular ones

Greater spotted woodpeckers, bullfinches, Trotty wagtails pied and grey, a robin that follows me around the garden, I know he isn't unusual but it is still a joy to have him or her, carrion crows, the usual ones are still a pleasure to see,

Oh I see, my apologies Marc. Despite their size Goshawks are not often seen due to their love of dense woodland. Incredible birds though.

Love the photos cornelly. Do you get many siskins?
