I did giggle at that @Dovefromabove, they all look the same to me! We had a blackbird nest resting on a 3ft fence panel and it didn't look anything that one!
House Sparrow & Tree Sparrow both build domed nests mostly in cavities/boxes. This nest is way to small. Not to be rude but I'd be surprised if there's anywhere in England that doesn't have Greenfinches commonly. I think they're about the fifth commonest UK bird after Chaffinch and Wren.
If greenfinches behave like bullfinches when nesting, you may not have seen them. We have bullfinches nesting here each year, but they are very secretive, and are extremely cautious when flying to and from the nest. We just don't see them. I have happened upon the nest and then hidden and waited for ages before an adult might be seen.
Looks like a wren's nest, as the wren I watched for 2 days build a nest in the large urn planter right in front of my lounge window last year built an elongated one with a side entry like this. Then they abandoned it. Guess the lady of the house didn't like the doorway or something. Google images shows Greenfinch nests all have top entry nests.
