Who's nest is this?

Cutting back a Pittisporum and saw this at the top,about 8 or 9ft up.
Who could have built it,goldfinch maybe?

    Can’t tell from here ... no sense of scale ... used goldfinch nests are usually covered with droppings. 
    Blackbirds often choose a fork in a tree/shrub above headheight. 

    If we could see inside the cup ...

    Too small for a blackbird,about 5" across (max) I would say.
    Can't tell if it is a cup or covered as I can only see the underside.
    I got all tangled up and poked about just getting that photo!!!
    I can only think of Goldfinch or maybe a Wren as I know I have these.

    At that size and in that location I’d suggest chaffinch.

    Could be,can't say I have seen a Chaffinch round here in a long time though!

    If it's about the size of a grapefruit with the "access hole" in the side, and consists of lots of moss and old spider webs, it might be a long-tailed tit's nest.

    Could be but have not seen any Long Tailed Tit's about either!!

    Looks like a Greenfinch nest to me.

    Could be but again no Greenfinches seen round here!
    I'm sure whoever built the nest would be a regular in the garden.
    Have a camera set up to see what comes to the feeders and so far none of the birds mentioned have been seen!!!!!

    Just spotted this thread. madpenguin, could it be a wren. Below is a wrens nest.

    That does look similar and I have seen wrens in the garden.
    I actually have a wren ball for them to nest in but so far no takers!!
    Maybe they prefer a bit of DIY.
