  • My mother had a bath lady who was from Jamacia and she noticed my castor bean plants in the backyard. She told me that castor bean plants grow all over Jamacia and when she was a little girl they would eat the seeds because they tasted like watermelon. Then she asked me, "And did you know what happened to us from eating those seeds?" Yes, you died. She laughed and replied, "No, we didn't die, we got tummy aches and spankings from our mothers."

punkdoc is right ; there is always confusion when using English names ; stick to the 'botanicals' to avoid this .
Ricinus communis is definitely not hardy in cool temperate climates .
