Thanks Paul for the link. Still like the plant and don’t really see anything to worry me as I’m not planning anything stupid with it. Lovely leaves and the seed pods are stunning.

Good link Paul, but do we know if that link is just written so as we will not be worried and then poison ourselves, 😀😀😀 I never realised that the umbrella murder was just a myth, I remember it well at the time, I was a bit reluctant to go to work on the train and used the bus for a while instead, but then as a girl of about 16 I suppose I could be excused for being scared.😱

    I've suggested no such thing.
Caution is good: paranoia is bad.
Who is likely to store seeds "in an open pot on a kitchen counter"?
I do!  Temporarily of course...when I collect seeds I often have them lying on newspaper on kitchen counter for a day or two to make sure they are dry before I store them.

    Great link!
  • Depending if there perennial castor oils or not i would save the seeds for the annual castor olis for next year because then you wont have to go out and buy seeds or if its perennial you can save the seeds and grow more then you could have a real jungle look in the garden !

But keep them well away from children and pets as they are poisonous.
Only the sap in the stalks and leaves they can only give you a very ichy rash like the euphoria plant

I don't think Castor oil plants [Ricinus communis ] are hardy in the UK.
Maybe you are thinking about false Castor oil plants [ Fatsia japonica ]

The seeds are quite happy to be kept dry, moisture will cause them to rot.
How can you lie there and think of England

Out of interest I over wintered 6 Ricinus communis in my greenhouse last year.  All survived but the plants are no bigger than those I grew from seed in the spring  I won't be bothering to do it again.
