    Probably a slug or snail:

If you can raise it up and move it away from other objects that provide a 'bridge' to the pot (and check the underside of the pot for hideaways), that might eliminate the issue.

I sprayed it with a garlic spray yesterday and woke up to two more damage leaves I will try what you have suggested too should I remove the leaves?

I have a similar problem on one of mine, and I have several. I put it down to night time skirmishes bt the snail population.  I've just put some slug bait on top of the pot. I can't explain why only one plant is effected. The plot thickens!

i lifted mine off the ground and woke up to no more holes. This morning xxx

  • My Senecio is also affected with holes in the leaves. Someone at my local garden centre suggested it could be moths which may be correct as there is what looks like orange insect larvae on the back of the affected leaves (see photo attached). If anyone knows a solution please let me know. Are these plants hardy or must they be brought indoors in winter?

  • My Senecio has small holes appearing underneath on large leaves. One circular pattern others inline. I think holes are too small for slugs, what is it ?.
I check with torch at night no signs of any predator. The pot stands elevated on dry coarse grit, the damage is a mystery.
  • I’ve had similar issues with Senecio, and discovered 3 things:

    1) woodlouse LOVE them, love to live in them, eat them, ruin them…
    2) these plants are better in pots, up off the ground in a relatively dry protected spot
    3) slugs also LOVE them
