Salvia Amistad

Everything I’ve read said the eventual height should be 3.5-4 feet tall.  However I’ve just come across this photo of Monty with his 6 foot tall Amistads 😬 Is it his growing conditions?  Mine will be in full sun, Yorkshire.  6 feet would be way too tall so if this is the norm I may have to rethink where I place it.

    I have 3 Amistad plants in my Essex garden and they do get to 6-7ft.
    I do manure the soil every year, so they'd be smaller on poorer soils I'd guess

    I like your signature Pete 😁 My soil has been amended as well.  How wide would you say yours get?

    Mine to to six feet and each plant about 18 inches wide, but I plant as a triangle of 3.

    18" could actually be ok at that height, perhaps my original plan can be salvaged after all :)

    Mine send out a lot of stems as they've been in the ground for about 5 years now they get to about 3ft wide each.
    If that's too wide, just replace them every couple of years. They're so easy from cuttings and a cutting taken this summer will still produce a 6ft plant the following year

    Mine got very tall and leggy last year, so this year I've been nipping out the buds in the hope that they'll be bushier. I took cuttings for the first time last year, and agree that it was straightforward... the cuttings are all growing nicely in pots now, but all showing flowering buds ...

    This is was the height of one of mine (not one of the leggy ones!) last year (sunny, clay). About 3-4ft. I’m hoping to keep it at about that height, but a little bushier...

    Thank you both, I enjoy taking cuttings so that sounds like a good option as well.  I'll pop them in as planned and can adjust as needed, I guess I need to see how they grow in my conditions.  That is lovely Janie, thank you for sharing.

    Have yours started growing already this year? My newly planted one from last year has a small.bit of growth so far

    Yep, @Ryan180680, I have six plants in a herbaceous bed, and they have all survived and are putting on a lot of growth. I have been pinching them out, and many of them have small buds forming already.
