It looks much more loved. Good idea to live with it for a while before doing anything too drastic anyway. With my garden I concentrated on improving one area, or one thing I was unhappy with, at a time. I haven't ended up with the garden I would really have designed from scratch, but I've got to know what is there and worked creatively to minimise my effort and expense while making the biggest impact.
"What is hateful to you, do not do to your neighbour".
Thanks, to be honest its mostly due to financial constraints, if I won the lottery I'd have it landscaped tomorrow, but I decided I didn't really want to start doing bits and pieces just yet in case I regretted it later. Plus the garage roof started leaking horribly in December so that had to come first!
I'm quite happy with a lot of the stuff I've grown though and with keeping it neater and tidier, so its very bearable for now.
I think next year might see more substantial changes.
Gardening is a marathon rather than a sprint, take your time and don't forget to just sit and enjoy your work
I’ve been off work most of last week for a much needed break, so there has been plenty of sitting in the sun and enjoying the garden! Lots of wildlife too, I’ve had blue tits, goldfinches, blackbirds, lots of other little brown birds I can’t name, plus, bees, butterflies and a few frogs. It’s been lovely.
Well its got messier again but its all in the name of progress! Got rid of some of the hideous concrete and created more room for plants! Also planted a midland hawthorn at the back and lots of bee-attracting hardy perennials on the slope at the back. The scabious, the hardy geraniums and the violas appear to be doing the best so far.
Jobs left to do this summer:
install small container pond
dig out new beds and plant them up
move that random azalea out of the lawn and into the bed
get a climber started on the arch
build the arbour I've ordered for behind the garage to screen next door's shed and greenhouse a bit and give me somewhere sheltered to sit and watch the birds and the pond
Rediscover the stepping stones that I know are in that lawn somewhere and put them back in action!
You've worked really hard @FlyDragon and you should be really proud of yourself. I love the brick raised beds! You could add a small arch to that too and have a climber going over it to really invite you into the rest of the garden. It's looking great now. x
