The one at the back appears to be an aloe. The one at the front appears to be an epiphyllum , also called an orchid cactus. The long extra tall leaf , I think has flower buds on it. It will prefer dappled light as opposed to full sunlight, especially if you are in california. This type of cactus needs gritty well drained compost, and is often grown in hanging baskets as the leaves tend to flop down. Their natural habitat is as an epiphyte growing in trees. The hybrids can have coloured flowers, but there is a species that has a gorgeous white flower that only opens up at night.
